ROTF gives a unique twist to modern day development and the loss of human connection to nature. It is apparent Hermes is actually fighting within himself to bare the daily life surrounded by cement buildings and thoughtless humans floating through life never really "building" anything. The false sense of security via big buildings and money that exist in today's real world  leaves Hermes frustrated and morning for the past. An environmental and social twist to a story containing characters typically never seen in this modern day setting keeps one curious as to how Hermes can actually ever break free from this stale life.  It also makes one think, what WOULD our ancestors or past inhabitants of this earth REALLY think of all we have "done" covering the earth and its beauty with cement to benefit the pocketbooks of a few?
